Skating Competitions and Shows
Have you considered competing with other skaters? If so the Northeast Kingdom Skating Club can prepare you for competitions in our area as well as in other rinks in New England, New York and Canada. There are many competitions held in different cities throughout the world. Competition is a great way to see some of the world and have fun ice skating at the same time. You can win medals and team trophies... and make many new friends! The Ice Skating Institute and the United State Figure Skating Association promotes these events. By joining one of these organization you can receive a skating magazine and a list of competition dates. The Fenton Chester Arena has its own skating exhibition in December and an Ice Show in March. Each and every skater is welcomed to skate in this giant event.
Why join our skating organization? You'll learn the basic and advanced skating moves. Plus your entire family can skate. It's great fun!
By joining ISI you will get $3,000 accident insurance policy, personalized membership card, membership patch, Recreational Skating magazine, Test Program and opportunities to compete locally and nationally.
Our program will begin offering public lessons on Friday, November 6, 1998. The goal for this program is to give the beginner the fundamentals and to provide advanced skaters the techniques to attain their goals. This is open to all ages. The objectives are to:
- Provide instruction on basic skating skills
- Help skaters develop coordination and balance
- Promote physical fitness
- Encourage skating as a lifetime sport
LASA follows ISI levels of skating. Each person will be evaluated at various levels and for a minimal cost they will receive a merit badge for each level passed.
Time:
- Beginners: 6:30-7:15pm
- Intermediate: 7:15-8:00pm
- Advanced: 8:15-9:00pm
This year we are pleased to welcome back Cathy Demers, Valerie Lussier and Bob Gessner as our skating instructors. Other instructors are our Free Style level volunteers from the Northeast Kingdom Skating Club under the watchful eye of Julie Rosland.
The NEKSC will begin in October. Private lessons can be arranged at the first session or before by contacting an officer of the club or by contacting skating director Ruth York for opening dates. Both the club and public lessons rely heavily on volunteers to help make the skating season a success. For further information on the fees and dates, please call the arena at 626-9361 or Ruth York at 626-3380. |
